The Menzies School of Health Research was founded in 1985, and is located on the main campus. The Centralian College was established in 1993 from a merger of two colleges, it currently shares its campus with the Charles Darwin University campus of Alice Springs, and is used as a co-educational senior secondary school. The Northern Territory University of Darwin was founded in 1984, from the merger of 3 colleges, and it offers degrees in arts, education, and applied science.
Academics at Charles Darwin University
Currently, the university offers higher education, undergraduate, and postgraduate degrees covering diverse subjects and disciplines, and Vocational Education and Training (VET) courses.
As for the programmes to choose from, there are three main areas of study offered by the institution: the Faculty of Engineering, Health, Science and Environment; Faculty of Law, Business and Arts; Vocational Education and Training. The campus has 10 schools on campus, each one with a specialised faculty, ranging from Law and Business to Health and Environment. Furthermore, the university has 9 research institutes and centres at the students’ disposal.
According to the Times Higher Education World University Rankings of 2015-2016, Charles Darwin is ranked 250th-300th in the world, and 48th in the world in 100 universities under 50 years old.
Student Life at Charles Darwin University
With over 22,000 students and 1,400 hired administrative staff in 2018, the Charles Darwin University Students Association and the Charles Darwin University Postgraduate Students Association are the communities that represent the students. In addition, a community radio station called Territory FM is owned by Charles Darwin University, which can also be heard in places such as Tennant Creek and Adelaide River.
